Room 202 News

Dear Parents,

This has been a month of achievement. The nomination of the first African-American president of the United States is an epiphany that defied many obstacles. Barrack Obama success is an inspiration for all African-Americans, especially for our students. As you can see, his dedication and perseverance is an example how far we can succeed if set life goals.

The first ten weeks of the school year started off successfully and I am proud of my student’s progress.  I know some of you all still have questions in regards to your child’s development thus far. During my experiences as a teacher, I know the transition from first to second grade is difficult, especially with an introduction to a new reading curriculum.
To make this transition comfortable for my students and get them acclimated to an instructional/independent level requires the technique called scaffolding. Scaffolding is a process that includes using multiple teaching strategies to guide students to learn to become independently successfully. This also might include creating interventions to create a remediation plan for those students that have deficiencies.

Thanks parents for your support and encouragement, and all parents that attended report card pick up. If you were not able to attend report card pick-up you can recieve your child's report card from Ms. Ross in the main office.

Starting today, I will distribute day planners to help my students' with there organizational skills and to continue to learn independence. Also, I will use this as another medium to communicate with you.

I know some skills in the Everyday Math book are confusing. Starting today I will distribute the reference book to this curriculum to assists students with the skill sets . I will send notices home near the end of the school year to inform you when all students are to return their books.

As we are entering the early phases of the second quarter, please work with your child on listening skills. The second quarter is a critical quarter of the school year. In addition, students must have superior listening skills when they are promoted to third grade because it is a bench mark grade that uses standardized testing as a barometer to measure students skills and a determinate for grade level promotion. WE MUST BEGIN NOW.
