Discipline Policy
The school and parents, likewise, share the responsibility to communicate expectations, rules, procedures, and consequences of infractions to students. This shared responsibility to communicate expectations, rules, procedures, and consequences, of infractions to students. This shared responsibility, in the context of mutual support and understanding, linked by timely communication and cooperation, is critical to the success of an effective program of student discipline.
We maintain a policy of zero-tolerance for certain acts of misconduct.
Pushing, shoving, fighting, using profanity and threats are not a part
of our R.A. Black family. Student
Code of Conduct will be strictly enforced and may result in
detentions suspensions, expulsions, and/or transfers
The dedicated teachers and staff at Robert A. Black Magnet School are

Detention
Detention may be scheduled during two consecutive lunch periods ( meaning a student will forfeit two days of their lunch period to eat alone in the Dean’s office with supervision one-on-one). Detention may also be scheduled before or after school. Detention before or after school will last for one hour, and pick up arrangements are made by the parents or legal guardians. During detention the students will work on a writing prompt geared toward their disciplinary infraction. Scheduling for detention is up to administration. The detention will be issued to the student for a parent’s signature with the scheduled date and time that the detention is to be served. A signature or phone confirmation is required from the guardian before the student serves the detention before or after school.
Expulsions
Repeated serious infractions, or a severe infraction could result in an expulsion referral. Please see the CPS Student Code of Conduct for further outlines on this matter, for this document is what will be followed and enforced in a case of this matter.
Electronic games, cell phones, CD players, and any electronic devices brought to school by a student will be confiscated. The items will be returned when a parent comes to retrieve them.
